By car, train and even seaplane!
Ardtornish Estate is in the south-west corner of the beautiful Morvern Peninsula which forms the extreme south-western point of the Highland Region. Our exact location is shown on this link to Google Maps which (as we are sure you know) has a great route planning facility. Download this map to find the location of your property on the Estate.
Driving to Ardtornish
Almost all of our visitors drive to Ardtornish; either from home or having flown to Glasgow or Inverness or having taken the sleeper train to Fort William. Unless you are on a walking holiday there really isn't any other convenient way of getting to Ardtornish.
In all of these circumstances the quickest way to drive to Ardtornish is to take the Corran Ferry across Loch Linnhe just 8 miles south of Fort William. The ferry takes about 5 minutes and saves a good hour's driving around the top of the Loch. The current cost of a one way trip is 6.20 and there are usually two sailings every hour. The latest Corran Ferry Timetable is at this link.
As you drive off the Corran Ferry onto the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, turn left onto the A861. You only have two more turns to make to get to Ardtornish. The first is off the A861 onto the A884 at the top of Loch Sunart where the turning is signposted to Lochaline and Mull Ferry. The second is at Ardtornish itself where you turn left off the A884 onto the estate road. If you get to Lochaline village you have gone a bit too far! The drive from the Corran Ferry to Ardtornish takes about hour.
By plane or train
The closest airport is Glasgow but Inverness and Edinburgh are not much further away. The airports are serviced by all of the main UK airlines including British Airways, EasyJet, Flybe and BMI.
An exciting and glamorous new seaplane service from Glasgow to Tobermory on Mull was launched in 2008. To arrive in great style visit the link.
The train journey from Glasgow to Fort William is one of the great train journeys in the world. Scotrail operates The Caledonian Sleeper service between London and Fort William and waking up as the train winds its way northwards to Ben Nevis is a memorable experience. There is definitely a heightened air of excitement in travelling to Ardtornish on the sleeper and we would thoroughly recommend it as a gentle alternative to the hustle and bustle of the airport.
